Somerville, Mass. – The Suffolk University Women's Soccer team (9-2-1 overall) steamrolled to their fifth straight win topping the Newbury College Nighthawks (4-6-1 overall) by a score of 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon. The Rams scored all nine of their goals in the first half, highlighted by a hat trick by freshman Gabrielle Balestrier (Mohnton, Penn.).
Balestrier finished the day with three goals and three assists, while freshman Taylor Miranda (Smithtown, N.Y.) recorded her seventh multi-goal game of 2010, netting a pair to bring her season total to 17. Both Balestrier (13 goals, 12 assists) and Miranda (17 goals, 4 assists) each have 38 points on the season, a new program record for a first-year player.
Freshman Monica Wolf (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) scored a pair of goals in the game along with an assist, while junior Leslie Hayden (Ross, Calif.) scored once along with two assists. Freshman Meghan McHale (Halifax, Mass.) had three helpers on the day. Freshman Nicole Carpenter (Woburn, Mass.) scored her second goal of the season in the game's second minute to start of the scoring barrage for the Rams.
Senior goalkeeper Emily Joyce (Easton, Mass.) had an easy day in net only having to make one save as she posted her second shutout in a row.
Suffolk will be back on Saturday as they take on Pine Manor College at 12:00pm in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.
