WINTHROP, Mass. - In a vote by the conference's eight head coaches, Suffolk women's tennis has been projected to finish sixth in the GNAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, the league announced Wednesday.
First-place votes were split up over four different programs with Johnson & Wales and defending conference champion Colby Sawyer each receiving three. The Wildcat topped the results with 58 points, while the Chargers took fourth with 46. Sliding between the two with one first-place nod apice, separated by just one point was Regis (50) in second and Eastern Nazarene (49) in third.
Simmons' 31 points edged out Suffolk's 25 as the Sharks and Rams finished fifth and sixth, respectively. Saint JOseph (Conn.) (20) and Albertus Magnus (9) completed the 2019 preseason poll.
Steve Counihan's team make-up is exclusively underclassman, split in half by newcomers and returners. Back in blue-and-golf for their sophomore seasons are Ilda Ascic, Jordan Miller and Kendall Smith.
The Rams will make their season debut Thursday, Sept. 5 against Wentworth at 6:30 p.m.
