BOSTON - Leading up to first serve of the 2019 Suffolk women's tennis campaign, head coach Steve Counihan has named sophomores Ilda Ascic and Kendall Smith as co-captains.
The Rams have been led by a twosome for four consecutive seasons now with Ascic and Smith becoming the first underclassmen to take on the captain roles in that tenure.
A year ago, the two helped Suffolk make its 11th straight GNAC Tournament appearance after producing a 3-4 mark against conference counterparts.
Ascic was a stand-out rookie playing exclusively in the second singles spot and teaming up with former Suffolk captain Delaney Dunlap '19 as last season's top tandem. The Sarveo, Bosnia native 4-3 league ledger and 9-4 overall singles record earned her a spot on the conference's singles second team.
Smith, who calls Stuttgart, Germany home, went 5-8 in singles play from the fourth position. In doubles, she partnered with three different teammates to produce a .500 (7-7) record.
There are 13 matches on Suffolk's 2019 calendar, that is scheduled to begin Thursday, Sept. 5 versus Wentworth.
