Women’s Tennis Shares Seventh in CCC Preseason Poll

CCC RELEASE

BIDDEFORD, Maine – As the newest addition to the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), Suffolk women's tennis is projected to share seventh in the conference's ranks according to the league's 2021 preseason poll it released Friday morning.

The Rams were picked to share seventh place with Curry in the annual poll conducted by the league's eight head coaches. Suffolk and the Colonels rounded out the preseason predictions that saw defending champion Endicott top the list with 62 points. The Gulls garnered seven of the eight possible first-place picks to land in front of Roger Williams, who had 53 points with one first-place nod.

Nichols (50) was just three points behind the Hawks to take third with Gordon (41) and Western New England (27) closing out the top five. Salve Regina, meanwhile, had just one more point than both Curry and Suffolk to slid into the sixth slot.

Suffolk will be led by senior co-captains Ilda Ascic and Kendall Smith. The pair have held down the blue-and-gold's top tandem over the last two seasons. The Rams will get an additional boost from graduate transfer Sarah Mezini, who has brought her talents to Beacon Hill from UMass Amherst.

The Rams' season opener sends Suffolk to Bridgewater State Thursday, Sept. 9 for a 3:30 p.m. outing.
