Manfra Earns Second GNAC Athlete of the Week
Emily Manfra of the Suffolk women’s indoor track & field team garnered GNAC Athlete of the Week recognition after her performance in the 3000 at Harvard’s Beantown Challenge.
WINTHROP, Mass. – Emily Manfra of the Suffolk women's indoor track & field team garnered GNAC Athlete of the Week recognition after her performance in the 3000 at Harvard's Beantown Challenge.
Manfra, who was the first-ever GNAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week Dec. 9, 2019, earned her second such nod this season. The senior has been acknowledged as the league's best athlete over a seven day stretch in each week she been active this season.
Suffolk is the only team in league history to have a female indoor athlete of the week with Manfra's classmate and co-captain Emma Weisse splitting Manfra's pair of honors Dec. 16, 2019. Overall, the Rams have all, 66.7 percent (4-6) of the GNAC's Women's Indoor Weekly Honors in the conference record books with Sarah Lawton taking home best rookie of the week Dec. 16, 2019.
The Stoneham, Massachusetts, native's second weekly accolade comes after she was the only NCAA Division III student-athlete invited to the Crimson's meet. At the event she laced up her sneakers against competitors from Boston College, Holy Cross, UMass Amherst, UMass Lowell, and UConn in the 3000 and put together a third-place finish in the field of 24 with a time of 10:03.20. That mark sits as the fourth-best in DIII this year.
Suffolk is back in as an entire unit this weekend at the Tufts Invitational Saturday, Jan. 18.
