Dorion, Women’s Track & Field Honored for Academics by USTFCCCA

USTFCCCA TEAM ACADEMIC AWARD USTFCCCA ACADEMIC ATHLETES | USTFCCCA ACADEMIC TEAM

NEW ORLEANS – Suffolk women's track & field was rewarded for its academic excellence as the team earned a spot on the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team, while Amalia Dorion was tabbed an All-Academic Athlete, the national organization released Monday.

For a team to be considered, a squad must combine for a cumulative grade point average of a 3.1 on a 4.0 scale through the most recent semester and/or quarter.

The 46 Rams under head coach Will Feldman's leadership combined for a 3.559 grade point average, which sat 93rd of the 344 different NCAA Division III programs that were recognized with the distinction, which included Conference of New England (CNE) counterparts Endicott (3.73), Hartford (3.38) and Wentworth (3.35).

It is the seventh straight team academic honor for Suffolk's women's track & field program, all of which have come under Feldman's leadership.

To be considered, a student-athlete must boast a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale through the most recent grading period and be one of the top 50 individuals or on one of the top 35 relay teams, as listed on the descending order lists of TFRRS, or qualified for the Indoor National Championships.

Dorion, a graduate student from El Paso, Texas, received her first individual academic nod from USTFCCCA for track & field. She checked the academic requirement off as a marketing major with a 3.800 GPA and raced to indoor NCAAs DIII Championships in the mile and sat 20th in outdoors in the 1500 to achieve the athletic requirement. She is the second-ever Ram to earn the feat, first since Emily Manfra grabbed her second such honor in 2020. Overall, Suffolk women's program has seen two student-athletes combine for three distinctions.

This season, Dorion is one of five CNE student-athletes to pick up the feat alongside Endicott's Hannah Risko and Hartford's trio of Tamara Greene, Cali Leonard and Jordan Murphy.
