Rodrigues Named CCC Field Athlete of the Year

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Allison Rodrigues of the Suffolk women's outdoor track & field team took home one of the league's top honor as the junior was named CCC Field Athlete of the Year Thursday, the conference office announced. 

The accolade comes on the heels of a perfect regular season for the North Andover, Massachusetts native. The junior captain went unbeaten in all four fielding events scattered over a trio of invitationals leading up to Suffolk's debut at the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship Sunday, May 2. The three-time CCC Field Athlete of the Week managed to capture an individual conference crown in the javelin to go down in the Rams' record book as the first student-athlete to be crowned a CCC Champion. From there she had podium finishes in the shot put and hammer throw with second-place showings. For her efforts, she captured a trio of all-league honors divided into one first-team nod and a pair of second-team selections to go along with the top league accolade. 

Rodrigues anchored Suffolk's middle of the pack finish at CCC's in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. She was not the lone Suffolk student-athlete to stand out at the meet though. In total, seven Rams combined for 14 all-conference nods. 

Freshmen Sydney Fogg and Amanda Walden matched Rodrigues three nods each. Fogg found herself on the second team with second-place performances in the two distance events, 1500 and 5000, while Walden sprinted on the second team in the 100 and 200, respectively. The classmates picked up a third-team nod as well as members of the blue-and-gold's 4x400 relay team along with fellow classmate Jocelyn Triscik and junior Megan Qualters. 

Nicole DiBenedetto leaped her way onto the first team in the high jump. The Manchester, Connecticut local cleared a personal-best 1.47-meter mark to clinch her spot as a CCC Champion. 

DiBenedetto's fellow jumper Grace Dreher had third-place podium performances as well in the triple jump and long jump en route to a pair of third-team nods. 

With the team season wrapped up a selection of Rams are still competing to secure their spot at this season's NCAA Division III Championships with their final chance this afternoon at Tufts National Qualifying Meet, which is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
