Volleyball Opens Home Slate Tuesday Versus Emerson

Coming off a tri-match sweep, Suffolk volleyball will play in front of its home crowd for the first time in 2019 Tuesday, Sept. 10 when it welcomes its Boston Commons neighbor Emerson to the Ridgeway Building. The Rams and Lions are set for a 6 p.m. first serve on the Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court.

LAST TIME OUT
 The Suffolk volleyball team capped off its first tri-match of the year with a straight set decision over Salem State at Colby's Wadsworth Gymnasium Saturday afternoon. The Rams sweep came by set scores of 25-15, 25-16 and 25-8.

RAMS RUNDOWN
 Thanks to its 2-0 trip to Maine, Suffolk returned to Beantown 3-2 on the year. 

The Rams 10.29 kps offense is propelled by the upperclassmen tri-force of Hannah Fabiano (2.71 kps), Sarah Mullahy (2.29 kps) and Kayla Barbera (2.24 kps). Harmony Johnson has jumped into to Suffolk's setting role, handing out 7.94 aps. 

The blue-and-gold's defensive unit is anchored by a 4.53 dps performance from freshman Kenzley Bell with Barbera and Johnson adding 3.00 dps and 2.00 dps, respectively. Stephanie Rheaume's 0.50 bps anchors the effort at the net.

LIONS LOOK
 Emerson sits 3-2 on the year and is coming off a 3-1 win at Western New England. 

Grace Tepper has proven to be the main ingredient to the Lions' success. The junior outside hitter leads the way in on the attack with 4.62 kps to go along with 2.52 dps on the defensive end. Albany Alexander pitches in 2.20 dps to the offense, which is primarily set up by Caroline Bond's 7.67 assists per set.

Anna Phillips paces the defense with 2.90 dps and sees 0.60 bps from Alexander.

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Since 2004, Suffolk is 2-12 all-time versus Emerson.
  • Emerson has won 11 straight matches over Suffolk, including 10 consecutive in straight sets.
  • One of Suffolk's wins came in four sets, while the other came via sweep.
  • The Rams and Lions have needed four sets to determine a winner just once with Suffolk coming out victorious.
  • Suffolk and Emerson went the distance once, in 2006, with the Rams falling in the thriller.
  • Every match except two in the all-time series finished in straight sets. Suffolk is 1-11 in three-set matches against the Lions.
  • Suffolk looks for its first win over Emerson since a sweep of the Lions Oct. 29, 2005.

 Harmony Johnson was acknowledged for her efforts in the Rams' first tri-match of the year with GNAC Rookie of the Week honors. The freshman garnered the feat after posting 9.00 aps, 2.00 dps and 1.00 kps in a 2-0 weekend for Suffolk.
