BOSTON – Suffolk women's volleyball will put on its second home tri-match of the season and in as many weeks Saturday, Sept. 20 when Rhode Island College and Worcester State head to Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court. The blue-and-gold begin the day at 11 a.m. versus the Anchormen with a 3 p.m. showdown between the Rams and Lancers set to cap off the day's competition.

LAST TIME OUT
Suffolk women's volleyball handled Southern Maine Thursday night at Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court, sweeping the Huskies in straight sets by scores of 25-14, 25-8, and 25-14.

RAMS RUNDOWN

  • Suffolk has coupled back-to-back wins together – a 3-2 thriller at Framingham State and a sweep of Southern Maine – to bring a 4-6 ledger into Saturday. 
  • Sam Michon (2.33 kps) and Chloe Clement (2.06) kps) both provide over 2.00 kps to the Rams' 9.11 kps attack that is primarily set up by Aislinn Lanigan's 5.57 aps. 
  • Mackenize Heaney has proven herself as the biggest serving threat for the blue-and-gold at 0.63 aces per set, while Kathy Mo supplies 0.54 aces per set at the line. 
  • Mo anchors the backline as well with 4.26 dps. The defense receives 2.37 dps from Clement and 2.22 dps by Heaney. 
  • The Rams are powerful at the net with 1.70 bps as a squad. Individually, Michon averages a team-best 1.67 bps and Emmy Thomander provides 0.74 bps.  

ANCHORMEN ACKNOWLEDEMENTS

  • Rhode Island College rides a three-match win streak into Saturday's play.
  • The Anchormen's victories over Salem State, Lesley and Mitchell all came in straight sets and pushed RIC to 6-3 on the season. 
  • Sarina Marines is a force offensively with a team-best 3.03 kps. Andrayah Williams (2.68 kps) and Sydnee Pires (2.03 kps) pitch in over 2.00 kps to the 11.58 kps attack that is directed by Yulesiy Alvelo (4.94 aps) and Paula Pesoa (3.30 aps) direct the attack. 
  • Service wise, Brookelyn Feola leads the way with 0.73 aces per set and Carolien Morrell serves 0.63 ace per frame. 
  • The trio of Carolyn Bailey (3.94 dps), Marina Colonis (3.60 dps) and Sarina Marines (3.30 dps) pace the defense that sees Williams rack up 1.09 bps at the net. 

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Suffolk and Rhode Island College renew a rivalry Saturday, meeting for the first time since Oct. 29, 2019. 
  • The Rams have never defeated the Anchormen, 0-7. 
  • Five matches have been determined in straight sets (0-5), while one in four sets (Sept. 2, 2006) and the first-ever tangle went the distance (Oct. 21, 2003).
  • The Rams welcome the Anchormen to Smith Court for the fourth time, first since Sept. 5, 2010. 
  • Suffolk is 0-1 against RIC under Scott Blanchard's leadership.

  • Worcester State is 1-10 on the season with its lone win coming via a 3-1 decision over Bay Path Sept. 6. 
  • Eight of the Lancers 11 matches have been straight set outcomes. 
  • Beatrice Gamboa-Estrella and Reece Coonnors provide a one-two offensive punch with 1.88 kps and 1.86 kps, respectively, while Maggie Luke (3.97 aps) and Michelle Iannacito (2.47 aps) direct the attack. 
  • Defensively, Katherine Crateau orchestrates thing defensive with 4.11 dps. Luke pitches in 2.56 dps and Cassie Millea has 2.10 dps to her credit. WSU receives 0.67 bps by Cassidy D'Esposito at the net.  

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Suffolk and Worcester State will meet for the third consecutive campaign and sixth time overall. 
  • The Rams have coupled back-to-back straight set wins together over the Lancers to move to 2-3 all-time versus WSU. 
  • Suffolk is unbeaten in home (1-0) and road (1-0) bouts with the Lancers and has yet to take down WSU on neutral hardwood (0-3). 
  • All but one match between Suffolk and Worcester State was decided in straight sets. The Rams are 2-2 in such instances. 
  • One match went four sets, Sept. 4, 2010. Suffolk lost to the Lancers in that outing. 
  • The Rams are undefeated, 2-0, against Worcester State with Scott Blanchard on the bench.
