Wentworth Handles Women’s Volleyball, 3-0

BOSTON – Suffolk women's volleyball fell in straight sets to Wentworth in Conference of New England (CNE) action Saturday at Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court. The Rams loss via set scores 25-9, 25-15 and 25-11.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Suffolk used both of its timeouts early as Wentworth built a 15-5 advantage. The Rams were unable to figure things out of the huddles and dropped the first frame, 25-9. Chloe Clement was the blue-and-gold's offensive spark in the opening set as the senior was responsible for three points on kills. 
  • A case of déjà vu was present in the second stanza as Suffolk faced a double-digit deficit early, 15-4. That gap grew to 23-8. The blue-and-gold mounted a comeback with six straight points to trim the hole back to single digits, 23-14. In that rally, Emily Norgrove served two aces, Sam Michon and Sami Shore combined for a block and Clement chipped in her sixth kill of the match. WIT halted Suffolk's scoring stretch and the teams went on to trade points the rest of the way, which allowed the visitors to walk away with the second, 25-15. 
  • The Rams found their grove to get the third underway as Aislinn Lanigan served an ace to get things going and Shore and Michon partnered up for a block to give the host an early 2-0 edge. From there, the scored tied three times and the lead flipped flopped twice and landed in favor of Wentworth, 5-4. The Leopards leapt ahead 19-9. Suffolk's scoring with limited to just two points the rest of the way to fall in the set, 25-11. 

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Clement finished with seven kills on a .200 attack percentage with six digs and one block. 
  • Shore supplied three kills and three blocks to go along with one dig. 
  • Norgrove notched three kills, two aces and one dig. 
  • Michon added three blocks. 
  • Kathy Mo logged 12 digs, four assists and one ace. 
  • Lanigan recorded eight digs and six helpers.

Suffolk closes its non-conference calendar Wednesday, Oct. 15 when Brandeis stops by Smith Court for a 6:00 p.m. midweek match.
