Feldman Coach of the Year, Five from Women’s Cross Country All-CNE

Feldman Coach of the Year, Five from Women’s Cross Country All-CNE

CNE RELEASE

BEVERLY, Mass. – Recognition rolled in for the four-time Conference of New England (CNE) Champs, the Suffolk women's cross country team, Tuesday afternoon. Will Feldman was selected CNE Coach of the Year, while five Rams raced to All-CNE distinction.

To earn the all-league honor, a student-athlete must earn a spot in the top-15 at the conference championship. For the first time, the accolades were broken down to first team (1-5), second team (6-10) and third-team (11-15).

Feldman, meanwhile, was voted the best coach by his peers after leading Suffolk's squad to its fourth conference championship in as many years as members in the league. It is his second CNE Coach of the Year honor as he scooped up the award in 2021. Overall, the eighth-year head coach has been recognized as a conference's Coach of the Year for women's cross country four times with back-to-back Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) honors in 2018 and 2019.

The fivesome was crucial to the blue-and-gold's fourth straight title, first under the CNE moniker, as they combined for 37 points to top the eight-team field. The Rams performance was 30 points ahead of runner-up Roger Williams.

Suffolk is the most decorated women's cross country team this season by the CNE with the five accolades. Roger Williams and the University of New England each saw three student-athletes receive all-league honors, while Gordon and Endicott were represented by a pair apiece.

The five all-league honors ties for second in the Rams record book for the most all-conference honorees in a single season sitting behind the 2022 squad's six recipients. It is the second straight season that Suffolk has five student-athletes pick up all-conference.

Two weeks ago, graduate student Amalia Dorion led the Rams' 12-runner pack on the 6k course on the campus of Western New England. The El Paso, Texas local compiled a program-best record at the conference championship of 22:13.06 to capture third in the 92-runner field. Junior Amy Pattelena was right on Dorion's heels as the Hollis, New Hampshire product crossed the tape in 22:19.08 to land one spot off the podium.

For their finishes in the top five, Dorion and Pattelena represented the Rams on the first team. It is the first league honor in a Suffolk uniform for Dorion, while Pattelena picked up her third in as many collegiate seasons.

Sydney Fogg, that hails from York, Maine, came through the chute in 22:39.10 to claim seventh. Sofia Moukaddem, a sophomore from Weston, Massachusetts, round out the top 10 with a time of 23:05.11.

Both Fogg and Moukaddem secured spots on the second team. Moukaddem's honor was the first of her Suffolk career, while Fogg's was historic. The senior captain became the first and only Ram to earn four all-conference nods, one in every season of her collegiate career.

Concepcion rounded out Suffolk's all-league honorees. The senior that calls Escondido, California home, finished 13th with a 23:22.22 performance en route to a spot on the third team, her second-ever all-conference honor.

In addition to the all-conference accolades, the league handed out the CNE Community Service Team award, which is presented to a student-athlete on each squad that demonstrates a commitment to their community. Suffolk's representative is Fogg, who has captained the squad for the last three years.

Overall, Suffolk has secured 36 all-league honors in its history, 20 from the CNE (formerly CCC), and 16 during its time in THE GNAC. When broken down, the Rams own 14 All-CNE (prior to team distinction), two All-CNE First-Team, two All-CNE Second-Team, one All-CNE Third-Team, a pair of GNAC Runner of the Year, one GNAC Rookie of the Year, 11 All-GNAC First-Team, two All-GNAC Second-Team. Twenty-seven (27) have come under Feldman's guidance, which began in 2018.

On top of the student-athletes recognition, Suffolk has had a league coach of the year four times, twice in the CNE and GNAC, respectively. Feldman is the only Rams leader to own a coach of the year title in Suffolk women's cross country history.
