HOPKINTON, N.H. – Suffolk women's cross country compiled a record-setting Saturday as the Rams posted the program's best NCAA Division III East Regional performance as it finished fourth at Hopkinton Fair Grounds.
The blue-and-gold combined for 153 points on the regional course, which Suffolk hosted for the fourth time and third straight season. That number put the Rams in sole possession of fourth place, the best team at regionals in program history.
Suffolk was 36 points behind Brandeis, who took the last spot on the podium and is receiving votes.. No. 17 Tufts won the meet with 51 points and No. 3 MIT sealed up second with 61 points.
The Rams were the top Conference of New England (CNE) squad on the course as the 30-team field also featured Endicott (9th), the University of New England (15th), Gordon (18th), and Wentworth (27th).
RAMS RUNNERS
- Tess Drury coasted through the 6k course as the grad student came through the finisher's chute in 21:45.2 to lock up ninth in the 214-runner field.
- Junior Sofia Moukaddem took 17th with a time of 22:09.8
- Senior Amy Pattelena placed 20th as she cross the tape in 22:21.
- Grad student Grace Miller slipped to 55th as she finished the course in 23:23.0.
- Freshman Chloe Koo was six spots behind her teammate thanks to her 23:35.4 performance.
- Sophomores Megan Dunn (24:53.6) and Gina Cappello (25:04.8) rounded out the Rams on the course in 104th and 113th, respectively.
ALL-REGION
- For their top-20 finishers the trio of Drury, Moukaddem and Pattelena took home All-New England honors from the DIII New England Association. The accolade is awarded to the top 20 finishes at the meet.
- That triad also grabbed United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-East Region, which is given to student-athletes in every regional race that places in the top 35.
RAMS RECORD
- Drury had the best showing by a Ram in regional history both place (ninth) and time (21:45.3). The time marked a personal-best for the sophomore.
- Moukaddem logged her best regional performance as a Ram, both in time (22:09.8) and finish (14th).
- Pattelena has claimed a spot in the top-20 in each of the last three seasons.
THAT'S A FIRST
- Drury and Miller made their D3 regionals debut as a Ram.
- Koo and Cappello both raced at regionals for the first time in their collegiate careers.
NOTEWORTHY
- Suffolk hosted NCAA DIII East Regionals for the fourth time in program history, third straight season and third time at Hopkinton Fair Grounds.
- The fourth-place performance is the best by Suffolk at regionals.
- Drury is the first Ram in program history to finish inside the regional top-10. Her ninth place finish displaces the previous mark of 14th held by Emily Manfra (2019) and Amalia Dorion (2024).
- Suffolk secured three USTFCCCA All-East Region honorees for the second straight season. The three regional honors by the national organization ties a program-best, which was set last year.
- The three All-New England nods via DIII New England is the most by Suffolk's squad in a single season in program history.
- Pattelena collected her fifth and second all-region distinctions in cross country, which makes her the most decorated Ram in the women's program's history.
- Pattelena became the third-ever Ram to run at regionals four times in her collegiate career, first since Sydney Fogg accomplished the feat a year ago.
- Drury picked up her first All-New England via DIII New England and All-USTFCCCA All-East.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Pending Saturday's showing, Suffolk's season will either conclude or continue at the 2025 NCAA DIIII Cross Country Championships in Spartanburg, South Carolina at the Roger Miliken Center Saturday, Nov. 22.
