NORTON, Mass. – In a back-and-forth battle Suffolk baseball came out on the wrong side of a 6-4 decision to Wheaton Friday afternoon at James V. Sidell Stadium.
THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 4 | Wheaton 6
RECORDS: Suffolk (2-16) | Wheaton (12-5)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- A Rams infield error in the first inning allowed the Lyons grab a 2-0 early edge.
- Suffolk sliced the gap in half in the top of the third. Colin Flynn singled through the left side and stole second to get into scoring position in time for Jack Mihalchik's base hit to right center that trimmed the distance to 2-1.
- Wheaton restored the multi-run margin in the home half of the fourth behind a two-run triple by Alex Vosburgh, who then scored courtesy of Evan Jones' bunt base hit.
- The back-and-forth carried into the top of the fifth. Singles by Shayne King and Flynn put two ducks in the pond for Mihalchik, who plated the first on a base hit to center. Three batters later, Sam Armbruster collected two RBI on a single through the left side to pull the blue-and-gold within one, 5-4.
- Once again, the multi-run gap was reinstated in the home half of the fifth as Wheaton tacked on one run on Jeremy Aylward's one-run single to turn it into a 6-4 game.
- The Rams had chances in the seventh and ninth to make up more ground, but stranded four base runners the rest of the way to suffer the setback.
