BLOOMFIELD, Conn. – Suffolk men's golf tied for fifth at the 2025 Conference of New England (CNE) Championship over the weekend at the Tumble Brooke Country Club.
The Rams compiled a 36-hole, two-day score of 637 to share fifth with Gordon in the nine-team field ahead of the University of New England (642), Wentworth (642) and Nichols (644).
Hartford edged out Endicott for the conference crown as the Hawks put together a 693, while the Gulls' card read 604. It was a tight race for the last spot on the podium and Western New England (609) edged out Roger Williams (610) by one stroke.
Michael Gallagher shined for Suffolk individually. The Novi, Michigan native had an impressive day one with a plus-2 on the par-72 course to be in the mix in the top five. On Sunday he shot a 79 to finish with a 153, good for a share of 12th en route to a spot on the All-CNE Third-Team. All-league distinction is handed out to the top 12 finishers (and more with ties) and broken down to first (1-4), second (5-8) and third (9-12) teams. Gallagher is the first Ram to take home All-CNE honors based on performance. He is the first Suffolk student-athlete to earn all-league accolades since the trio of Cameron Sinopoli, Christopher Sinopoli and Vijay Sakuru took home all-conference in 2023. He is the second-ever sophomore to earn the feat, first since Christopher Sinopoli in 2023.
To add more hardware to his shelf, Gallagher was award the Elite 21 award, handed out to the student-athlete at the CNE Championship with the highest GPA. The marketing major earned the distinct with a 3.963 cumulative GPA. He is the first Suffolk men's golfer to garner this distinction and third-ever Ram to do so, first since softball's Julia Newcomb in 2025.
Gallagher's day one score of 74 reset a Rams' 18-hole CNE Championship record surpassing the previous mark of 75 set by Christopher Sinopoli in 2023. The card of 153, meanwhile, matches Suffolk's CNE Championship two-day, 36-hole individual score, also set by Sinopoli in 2023.
Senior Trey Connolly made the most of his first championship course competition, while his classmate Sinopoli left it all on the green in his four league tournament appearance. The co-captains shared 18th with identical cards. They both shot a plus-6 on day one and added two strokes to that performance on the second day on the links to finish with a 158 (+14).
Connolly's and Sinopoli's classmate Jonathan Donovan took 40th in the field of 45 with a 168.
Junior Ryan Mollica tied for 43rd behind a 177 two-day performance.
Suffolk is back in action Tuesday, Oct. 7 at the Bull's Bridge Golf Club in South Kent, Connecticut.
