NEIGA Championship Next for Men’s Golf this Weekend

BOSTON – Suffolk men's golf will make its annual trip to Brewster, Massachusetts, this weekend to battle for the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship at the Captains Golf Course. Action commences Saturday, Oct. 18 and runs through Sunday, Oct. 19.

Suffolk University is gearing up for its annual Athletics Day of Giving, taking place October 22 and 23, and the excitement is building across campus. This two-day event is a powerful opportunity for alumni, families, and fans to rally behind Suffolk's 20 NCAA teams and more than 350 student-athletes.

LAST TIME OUT
Suffolk men's golf compiled a fourth-place finish at the Battle at Bulls Bridge Tuesday at the Bulls Bridge Golf Club.

ABOUT THE NEIGA
The New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) is a non-profit organization, which was first organized in 1934 at the Oakley Country Club in Watertown, Massachusetts. NEIGA is believed to be the largest gathering of collective players from all levels of NCAA competing at the same location on a 36-hole layout. There are currently 46 New England colleges and universities as members of the NEIGA. 

THE COURSE
Two championship golf courses at one location line in the Captains Golf Course. Together, the par-72 Port Course and the par-72 Starboard Course deliver 36 holes.  

THE COMPETITION
Twenty-one schools including Suffolk will play for regional glory and the NEIGA title.  

The field features all eight of the Rams Conference of New England (CNE) counterparts in Endicott, Gordon, Hartford, Nichols, Roger Williams, the University of New England, Wentworth and Western New England.

Bates, Eastern Connecticut State, Elms, Husson, Keene State, Lesley, Salem State, Saint Joseph's (Maine), Salem State, Southern Maine, Springfield, Western Connecticut State and Worcester State round out the field. 

RAMS REWIND
A year ago, Suffolk claimed 13th at the 89th NEIGA Championships Oct. 19-20 with a two-day score of 637.

NEIGA NOTES

  • Since 2000, the NEIGA Championship has taken place at The Captains Golf Course in Brewster, Massachusetts. 
  • The Rams have been featured in the field every single year since the turn of the century.
  • Suffolk's best team finish since 2000 came in 2019 when it finished sixth in the 16-team field. 
  • The blue-and-gold's best team two-day, 36-hole card was a 611, achieved in 2022 by a combination of 307 and 304, which is the record for the squad's best 18-hole score.
  • Individually, the best 36-hole score was a 150 achieved by Mauro Stanchieri at the 87th NEIGA Championship Oct. 15-16, 2022.
  • Finish wise, Owen Boggini tied for 12th in 2019 with a 156 to secure a spot on the All-NEIGA Second-Team. He is the first and only Ram to finish in the top-15 since the regional championship has taken place on Cape Code. 
  • Jake Zirlin's 73 on the second day of the 2023 NEIGA Championship is the best 18-hole score by a Suffolk student-athlete at Captains Golf Course.
  • Trey Connolly and Christopher Sinopoli are the only active Rams that are set to compete this weekend that have experience at Captains Golf Course. Sinopoli has competed in the last three NEIGAs and his best performance came in 2023 with a 161, good for a share of 47th. Connolly, meanwhile, shot a 164 a year ago to finish in a tie for 163rd.

ALL-NEIGA
The top six performers, including ties, will be awarded All-New England honors.  

RAMS ROSTER
The Rams will be represented by seniors Trey ConnollyChristopher Sinopoli and sophomores Michael Gallagher and Mikey Kowalsky, while freshman Joshue Grosse will make his collegiate debut as an individual. 

RAMS RECOGNITION
Michael Gallagher of the Suffolk men's golf team earned All-Conference of New England status following his performance at the 2025 CNE Championship Oct. 4-5 at the Tumble Brooke Country Club, the league office announced.
