EAST BOSTON – For the first time in 14 meetings Suffolk men's ice hockey defeated Curry and did so in convincing fashion as the Rams rolled by the Colonels, 5-0, in Conference of New England (CNE) action at Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink Friday night. The blue-and-gold saw five different goal scorers in their 10th straight win.
THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 5 | Curry 0
RECORDS: Suffolk (16-7-1, 15-3-1 CNE) | Curry (15-8-1, 12-6-1 CNE)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a back-and-forth first period, Suffolk broke open the game with three unanswered in the second period.
- The scoring started thanks to a Joe O'Brien tip in at the 11:43 mark of the middle period. Dimitri Voyatzis took a shot from the point that O'Brien's stick knocked and sent to towards the back of the net. Ralph Berry helped set-up the game-opening goal.
- Less than two minutes later, Nick Liotino put one away to double the distance. Alex Ondos and O'Brien did a give-and-go with the puck to get it into the Colonels' zone. One in enemy territory, O'Brien thread the needle for a perfect center pass to Liotino, who wasted no time in scoring on the power play.
- The Rams did not stop there as Quinn Booth stole the puck in transition and found Ondos with 2:56 remaining before the second intermission to give Suffolk a 3-0 cushion.
- At the midway point of the final period Curry saw its best chance. Nolan McDonough was on the doorstop, but Austin McNicholas made a monster save to keep the Colonels off the board and the three-goal advantage in the blue-and-gold's favor.
- Suffolk sealed its winning fate with a heads-up goal with just over five minutes to play in regulation. Scott McManus got off the bench and quickly skated towards the action and Marko Giourof found his wide open teammate for a one-on-one with Cam Smith.
- The scoring did not stop there, however, as Aidan O'Connell cleaned up mess rebounds in front with 45 seconds left on the clock for the lopsided 5-0 margin. Giourof and McManus registered helpers on the final goal of the night.
