Men’s Soccer's Late Scores Lead to 2-0 Win at UNE

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Suffolk men's soccer poured in two goals over the final nine minutes of play to take down the University of New England, 2-0, in Conference of New England (CNE) action at Barbara J. Hazard Field Tuesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Francisco Valck dribbled down the pitch from Suffolk's end, past midfield, to the Nor'Easters 40-yard line where he lobbed a go-ahead pass to Dylan Trachtenberg. Trachtenberg pulled UNE's keeper Sean MacDonald out of position in time to center a one-touch pass to Mohamed Mehaya for a wide-open, easy right-foot finish to give the Rams a 1-0 lead with 8:37 left in the second stanza. 
  • Insurance came courtesy of Trachtenberg in the two seconds. The sophomore gained possession of the rock in a cluster of Nor'Easter defenders, took it for a one-on-one with MacDonald and finished low right for the 2-0 final.   

KEEPING UP WITH KEEPERS

  • Ian Caldwell registered two saves in the shutout. 
  • MacDonald finished with six saves in the setback. 

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Tratchenberg had a hand in both goals as he scored one and assisted on the other. 
  • Mehaya recorded one goal. 
  • Valck notched one helper.
  • Suffolk commanded the pace of play as it outshot UNE, 16-8, including an 8-2 advantage in shots on net. 
  • The Nor'Easters, meanwhile, had six corners compared to the Rams two. 

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk remains unbeaten all-time against the University of New England, 5-0-0. 
  • The Rams are now 3-0-0 when playing UNE in Biddeford, Maine. 
  • Suffolk has outscored the Nor'easters 15-4 all-time. 
  • With tonight's decision, there has been three shutouts in the series. Tonight's meeting was the first clean sheet since 2023. 
  • Every meeting between Suffolk and UNE has come under Bill Maddock's guidance. 
  • Trachtenberg registered a personal-best three points as he produced one goal and one assist in the same contest for the first time in his collegiate career.  
  • The Rams blanked their seventh opponent of the season.
  • Caldwell earned his third shutout of the year.
  • Valck pushed his point streak to five games. In that stretch he has four goals and four assists.
