Curry Clips Softball in Game One, 4-1

MILTON, Mass. – Limited offense plagued Suffolk softball as it fell to Curry, 4-1, in the opening-game of a Conference of New England (CNE) doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at D. Forbes Will Field.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 4 | Curry 4
RECORDS: Suffolk (15-15, 6-7 CNE) | Curry (11-20, 4-11 CNE)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Curry used free bases, small ball and one hit in the bottom of the second to put the Rams in a 2-0 hole early.
  • The Colonels doubled the distance in the bottom of the fifth. A double and single put runners on second and third with two outs for the host. An error on a double steal allowed the first run to come in before Ana Tsonis' single to center plated the second to turn it into a 4-0 margin.
  • Suffolk's bats were limited, and the blue-and-gold remained scoreless until the seventh. Down four, Julia Mills looked to spark something as she laced ad double down the left field line. Claire Basaldua followed with a single to second to put Rams in the corners. Basaldua was caught swiping second, but Mills managed to score on the play to eliminate the shutout. With one out and no runners on, Kendal Heyman reached on a Colonels' error and Sara Butera's base hit to left kept the rally going. The blue-and-gold's comeback was halted there as the next two batters went down to seal the 4-1 setback.

PITCHERS PICTURE

  • Cynthia Rucinski took the loss as she gave up four runs, two earned, on seven hits and one walk with four strikeouts through 6.0 innings.
  • Morgan Barmash picked up the decision behind a one-run, seven-hit, four-strikeout, complete-game performance.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Jolie Quintana went 2-for-4 at the plate.
  • Mills registered a 2-for-3 performance at the plate with one double and one run.
  • Ava Lanza, Basaldua and Butera added one hit each.
