WESTFIELD, Mass. – Suffolk women's golf captured the Westfield State Invitational Sunday at the Tekoa Country Club.
The Rams handled their five opponents in Western Massachusetts as they for a team card of 321 (+37) on the par-71, 5,597-yard course to claim the top spot. The blue-and-gold was 35 strokes ahead of runner-up Nichols, who shot a combined 356. Keene State rounded out the podium with a 360, while Gordon joined its Conference of New England (CNE) counterparts on the course and slid into fifth with a 399. Albertus Magnus (394) and host Westfield State (442) claimed fourth and sixth, respectively.
Sunday marked the sixth time that Suffolk teed off at the Tekoa Country Club and it kept its winning ways perfect on the course with its sixth victory in as many outings. The triumph came behind the lowest 18-hole team card on the greens in Westfield, surpassing the previous mark of 323, set Oct. 1, 2023 at the Northeast Women's Golf Conference (NWGC) Fall Invitational.
Individually, Krisna Mahendran won the tournament with a 74 (+3), which also is the best showing by a Ram at Tekoa CC in program history. That score rerwrote the previous record of 77 held by Ellie Yarbrough set at the NWGC Fall Invitational Oct. 1, 2023. The victory is the sophomore's first of the season.
Junior Brooke Bugajewski shot 80 (+9) to share second in the field of 34 with Nichols' Felicia Zander.
Sophomore Emory Goodson and freshman Lauren Phelan finished one after another in fourth and fifth, respectively. Goodson was an 11-over-par with an 82, while Phelan was three strokes behind her teammate.
Alexia Hill turned in a 16th-place performance as the sophomore shot a 98.
The Rams are idle from action until Saturday, Sept. 27 when it travels to the Wintonbury Hill Golf Course in Bloomfield, Connecticut for the Hartford Tri-Match.
