Women’s Ice Hockey Brings in 10 Newcomers for 2025-26

BOSTON – Suffolk women's ice hockey will get have new faces on the 2025-26 squad as third-year head coach Abby Ostrom brought in a 10-member recruiting class.

The group is comprised of seven true freshmen – Briana Anundsen, Ava Buckley, Leah Buckley, Lucy Cantin, Marin Healey, Talia Stein-Trujillo and Shirley Whitmore – grad transfer Ava Calabria, who comes to Beantown from Salem State, and a pair of sophomore transfer sisters from Plattsburgh State, Emma Holmes and Julia Holmes. 

"We have a diverse group of incoming student-athletes," Ostrom said. "Our incoming freshmen are working hard to integrate themselves into our program, learn the systems and compete daily at a high tempo.  I'm looking forward to seeing how all our newcomers fit into our program and add much needed depth and ability to our lineup."

Position wise, there are six forwards in Ava Buckley, Calabria, Emma Holmes, Julia Holmes, Stein-Trujillo and Whitmore, three defensemen in Anundsen, Leah Buckley and Healey, and one goaltender, Cantin. 

The newcomers will add depth to the Rams' 25-player roster that brings back goalie Katelyn Michals, who assembled a 2.94 GAA in 26 games played with 777 saves a year ago, as well as Bella Schmidt (10g, 8a), Alexia Hill (5g, 10a), Jenna Caballero (1g, 13a), Liliana Moose (5g, 9a), Anya Nichipor (3g, 10a) and Cassie Borowski (6g, 6a), who all provided double-digit points to the blue-and-gold's 75-goal scoring unit.

Suffolk is just over a week away from its eighth varsity season that opens Nov. 7-8 in a Conference of New England (CNE) home-and-home series with Curry. The Rams will entertain the Colonels Friday at Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink at 5:00 p.m., before hitting the road for the first time Saturday for a 4:00 p.m. puck drop.
