EAST BOSTON – Two unanswered third period goals by Nichols broke up a 2-all tie and was enough to take down Suffolk women's ice hockey, 4-2, Saturday at Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink.
THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 2 | Nichols 4
RECORDS: Suffolk (5-14-2, 5-7-2 CNE) | Nichols (6-16-0, 3-12-0 CNE)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The teams traded goals less than a minute apart in the first to keep things even at 1-all at the first intermission.
- Nichols struck first thanks to Sienna Reeves' slap shot at the 14:33 mark. The Rams' response came in transition. Lily Abraham stole the puck in the Rams' zone, sent a go-ahead pass to Jenna Caballero, who took it into the Bison end and sent a cross ice pass to Cassie Borowksi, who finished 50 seconds after the Bison's goal.
- The visitors snuck in front on the power play just under six minutes into the middle period. Keira Goffe was responsible for the go-ahead marker as she tipped in Cela MacDougall's rebound.
- Five minutes later the playing field was leveled once again as Laurel Potter tucked in a Briana Anundsen pass to lock things at 2-2. Borowski helped set-up the goal as well.
- The tradition of Nichols scoring first carried into the third period as Isabelle Brennan lit the lamp 2:17 in.
- The story of Suffolk responding did not continue as the blue-and-gold was unable to find the back of the net again and the Bison put the game away with 1:12 remaining in regulation thanks to Angalisa Caceda's empty netter.
