Women’s Soccer Battles JWU to Scoreless Draw

EAST BOSTON – Suffolk women's soccer secured an important Conference of New England (CNE) point against league-leading Johnson & Wales in a 0-0 draw Tuesday evening at James A. Sartori Stadium at East Boston Memorial Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The two sides combined for just two shots on target in a quiet first half.
  • Arden Rose kept the game level with a punching save in the 65th minute that pushed the ball out for a JWU corner.
  • Suffolk's best chance came with under six minutes remaining when the ball fell to Gianna Maina in front of goal, but her effort fell just short.  

KEEPING UP WITH THE KEEPERS

  • Rose made three saves in the contest.
  • Kyla Stamilio recorded one save in her 45 minutes of action.
  • Ava Vaughan relieved Stamilio at the half and stopped five attempts.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING 

  • Suffolk narrowly outshot JWU 10-9 and held a 6-3 edge in shots on target.
  • The Rams created five corner opportunities compared to the Wildcats two.
  • Lily Goldmann and Daniela Petronio led the team with two shots each. 

NOTEWORTHY 

  • The Rams have now posted 11 shutouts this season making the blue-and-gold just one of 13 NCAA Division III schools with 11 clean sheets to their credit in 2025. 
  • Suffolk has compiled three straight shutouts together for the third time this season. 
  • The three consecutive scoreless stalemates are a first for the blue-and-gold in program history. The Rams have had back-to-back 0-0 draws together twice prior to this string of three in a row – Oct. 15-19, 2024 and Oct. 7-12, 2009.
  • Suffolk's contest has been decided via a draw in three straight outings for the first time since compiling four ties together Oct. 15-26, 2024.  
  • The matchup marked the 16th all-time meeting between Suffolk and JWU and the first since October 12, 2019.
  • The Rams snapped a three-game skid to the Wildcats to move to 5-10-1 in the series.
  • Suffolk moved to 2-5-1 in Eastie versus the Wildcats.
  • The scoreless draw was the fifth shutout of the series, first since the last meeting, Oct. 12, 2019, a 5-0 Suffolk setback. 
  • The Rams held the Wildcats scoreless for the first time since Oct. 29, 2011, a 1-0 Suffolk win. 
  • Suffolk is now 1-3-1 when a team is kept off the scoreboard in the series with JWU. 
  • The contest marked the first-ever meeting between the programs in CNE play.
  • Ellie McDougall managed her first match against the Wildcats.
  • Rose registered her eighth clean sheet of the season, which lands in a share of second on Suffolk's single-season list alongside Allison Rodrigues, who registered the feat in 2021. The eight shutouts also rank in the Rams' all-time annals in sole possession of sixth.
