FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – Suffolk women's volleyball got back in the win column in dramatic fashion as it took down Framingham State in five sets Tuesday night at Richard Logan Gymnasium inside the Athletic & Recreation Center. The Boston Rams won via set scores 25-22, 24-26, 23-25, 25-18 and 16-14.
THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 3 | Framingham State 2
RECORDS: Suffolk (3-6) | Framingham State (5-3-0)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Action was close in the first frame as the score tied seven times with the last at the midway point, 15-all. A kill by Chloe Clement followed by back-to-back aces by the senior captain sent Suffolk ahead, 18-15. The Rams did not let go of the advantage the rest of the set to take a lead, 25-22.
- Suffolk jumped ahead early, 5-3, but Framingham State fought back to put the blue-and-gold in a 13-5 hole. The Rams rattled off a 13-5 run to even matters at 18, which forced the host Rams into a huddle. Out of the break the teams traded six points to keep things tied at 24. It was FSU that managed to couple a pair of points together though to take the stanza, 26-24.
- The score tied seven times and the lead swapped six in the third set that saw Framingham State up 18-16. Scott Blanchard took a timeout to gain some composure. Unfortunately, momentum was not on the Boston Rams side and the host went on to take the set, 25-23.
- Suffolk broke an 11-11 set with five unanswered to sneak in front, 16-11. Framingham State responded with six consecutive points to flip the script in its favor, 17-16. The blue-and-gold dominated the remainder of the fourth frame as it outscored the host 9-1 to take the set, 25-18.
- Similar to the first four sets, it was a see-saw affair in the fifth. Down 11-8, Suffolk climbed back behind a 6-1 spurt to go up 14-12. FSU used a timeout and scored two quick out of the break to even things for the sixth time in the set at 14, which caused Blanchard to take a timeout of his own. Emmy Thomander knocked down a kill out of the huddle and Emily Norgrove went up for a solo block to seal the set, 16-14, and match.
