Roger Williams Rolls Past Women’s Volleyball, 3-0

BOSTON – Suffolk women's volleyball suffered its first Conference of New England (CNE) setback of the season as Roger Williams swept the Rams, 3-0, Tuesday night at Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court. The defeat came by set scores 25-19, 25-19 and 25-23.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 0 | Roger Williams 3
RECORDS: Suffolk (6-11, 1-1 CNE) | Roger Williams (6-8, 2-0 CNE)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Roger Williams poured in the first eight points of the match. That eight-point game remained at 13-5 before the blue-and-gold battled back thanks to an 8-2 spurt that trimmed the gap to one, 15-14. That span featured a pair of aces by Chloe Clement and two blocks from Grace Cervenka. The Hawks flew away with the frame as they poured in six unanswered en route to a 25-19 first frame win.
  • Down 9-2, Suffolk had to claw back yet again in the second stanza. The Rams rallied around a 10-3 run to pull within two, 14-12. After back-and-forth action, the blue-and-gold sat in a six-point, 20-14 hole. The host managed to rattled off three quick points to slice the margin in half. That's as close as Suffolk would get as RWU would close out the set behind a 5-2 spurt.
  • Things shifted in the third as Suffolk leapt out to an 8-2 lead. Roles reserved as the Hawks climbed back and leveled the playing field at 11. That tie score was the first of five with the last at 19 before the advantage shifted back-and-forth twice with Suffolk up 22-20. The Rams momentum faded and RWU capitalized as it outscored the host 5-1 down the stretch to flip the script and take the third, 25-23, to seal the sweep.
