Men’s Hockey Ties No. 12 Endicott, 2-2

EAST BOSTON – The Suffolk men's ice hockey team forced a 2-2 stalemate with No. 12 Endicott Friday night at Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink. The Gulls picked up the extra Conference of New England (CNE) point via a 1-0 shootout win.

HOW IT HAPPENE

  • Suffolk scored first behind a power play puck from Scott McManus that was set-up by Dimitri Voyatzis and Nolan Leonard 2:36 into the contest. 
  • The Gulls got that goal back 4:11 later thanks to Ben Jenkinson and took a 2-1 upperhand into the first intermission as Lou Kamiernski lit the lamp with 2.7 left in the opening period. 
  • The equalizer came for Suffolk at the 8:15 mark of the third period thanks to Scott McManus' who tucket the game-tying goal home. 
  • McManus' marker forced the overtime period, which had zero shots on net despite a 2-minute power play for the blue-and-gold. Endicott took four shots, all blocked, while Suffolk had two tries, one blocked and one off target. 
  • In the shootout, Sebastian Speck was the only player to bury their attempt, as he connected in the third round, which gave the Gulls the shootout win. buried his attempt to give the Gulls the shootout win. 

NETMINDER NOTES

  • Austin McNicholas had 31 saves. 
  • Matt Schoephoerster made 27 stops in his first appearance of the season.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • McManus was responsible for both of Suffolk's goals. 
  • Owen HodgettQuinn Booth, Voyatzis and Leonard logged one assist each. 
  • Endicott held a slim 33-29 edge in shots. 
  • Suffolk went 1-for-5 on the power play and successfully skated off four penalties.  

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk is unbeaten against Endicott in back-to-back games for the first time in program history. 
  • The Rams are now 3-16-2 all-time versus the Gulls. 
  • Suffolk is 1-7-1 as the home team against the Gulls. 
  • Today's decision was the second-ever overtime outing between Suffolk and Endicott, first since the inaugural meeting, Nov. 7, 2015, a 1-1 tie.
  • Both OT games between the Rams and Gulls have ended in draws. 
  • McManus recorded a personal-best two goals and tied a career-high two points.
  • McManus (2g, 1a) provided points in back-to-back games. 
  • Voyatzis (2g, 2a) and Leonard (4a) extended their point streaks to three games.
