WNE Stops Women’s Ice Hockey, 6-2

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Suffolk women's ice hockey dropped a 6-2 Conference of New England (CNE) decision to Western New England Saturday night at the Olympia Ice Center.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 2 | Western New England 6
RECORDS: Suffolk (5-15-2, 5-9-2 CNE) | Western New England (16-6-1, 12-3-1 CNE)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • A pin point power play shot from Lily Abraham gave Suffolk the 1-0 lead 5:10 into the contest. Abby Sandler assisted on the game-opening goal.
  • The Golden Bears poured in two unanswered over a 5:12 span to send the Rams into the first intermission down, 2-1.
  • Just over a minute into the middle period the blue-and-gold managed to level the playing field at 2-all. Liliana Moose brought puck into the Golden Bears' zone on a Suffolk power play. The senior captain found Cassie Borowski at the point, who put an attempt on target. The initial shot was blocked and redirected to Anya Nichipor, who wasted no time to put the rebound back on net and it paid off as it found the back of the cage.
  • The even score did not last long as WNE flipped the script back in its favor as Leah Dube's struck 2:46 later to give the host a 3-2 edge.
  • The Golden Bears put away their fourth goal of the night courtesy of Kaylin O'Connor with 1:49 remaining in the second stanza to send the Rams into the locker room down a pair again, 4-2.
  • Two WNE goals in the first two minutes of the third period sealed the setback fate for Suffolk.
