Women’s Soccer Routs Rivier in Home Debut, 5-0, Remains Undefeated

BOSTON – Suffolk women's soccer used goals from five different scorers to best Rivier, 5-0, in its home opener Tuesday evening at James A. Sartori Stadium at East Boston Memorial Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Suffolk pressed high early as Isa Peraza forced a turnover and slotted her shot from outside the box past the outstretched arms of Rivier goalkeeper Olivia Rosario and into the top left corner to break the deadlock in the 14th minute.
  • Sophomore Jaiden Wilds denied Rivier an immediate equalizer, stopping Leah Morrier's strike from within the 18-yard box.
  • The blue-and-gold kept the pressure on the Raiders as Sophia Vazquez tapped a ball from midfield through to first-year Paige Kennedy who doubled the Rams' lead with eight minutes to play in the first half. The freshman's first collegiate goal sent the host into the locker room up a pair.
  • Lily Goldmann spearheaded a strong start to the second half, driving through defenders to secure the Rams' third goal of the contest in the 50th minute.
  • Just about four minutes later, Avery Porter added to the total. The junior headed home a ball from within the six-yard box.
  • Daniela Petronio rounded out the scoring with a swift strike from 30 yards out to put a stamp on the 5-0 scoreline at the 67:15 minute mar. 

KEEPING UP WITH KEEPERS

  • Wilds stopped three shots in the shutout.
  • Rosario and Bri Nugent split goalkeeping duties for Rivier, making three saves and two saves, respectively.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Petronio registered one goal and one assist. 
  • Goldmann, Kennedy, Peraza and Porter netted one goal apiece. 
  • Makena ColumbusTatum Flynn and Vazquez dished out one assist each. 
  • Suffolk held the advantage in shots, 16-11, with seven on target.
  • Both teams took two corners.

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk has held opponents scoreless through the first four games for the second straight season.
  • The Rams are undefeated through the first four games for the second year in a row.
  • The five-goal output is the highest of the season and the first time Suffolk has scored five goals since in poured in 13 in a 13-0 offensive onslaught of Fisher, Sept. 24, 2024.
  • Suffolk and Rivier met for the 14th time Tuesday night. 
  • Suffolk moved to 9-4-2 all-time versus Rivier.
  • The Rams improved to 4-2-1 at home against the Raiders.
