BOSTON – The Suffolk women's soccer team kept its unbeaten ways going as it battled to a 1-1 draw against Lesley at James A. Sartori Stadium at East Boston Memorial Park Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The blue-and-gold broke the deadlock in the 17th minute as Gabriella Duggan played a ball from the midfield to the feet of Angelina Giovanni, who picked out Daniela Petronio in the box. The senior slotted her shot into the back of the Lesley goal to give the host a 1-0 advantage. 
  • Lesley nearly found the equalizer with a shot from a free kick in the 35th minute as the ball found its way through the wall, but not past the outstretched arms of Jaiden Wilds.
  • Zoe Curtaz drew the game level after she converted a penalty kick in the 63rd minute. She set-up the PK after Wilds was whistled for a yellow card. 
  • The Lynx picked up the pace as Wilds kept the game at one apiece with a diving save in the 77th minute.
  • Suffolk's best chance of the second half came in the 85th minute as Lily Goldmann's cross went just wide of Sophia Vazquez at the back post.
  • With four minutes left on the clock, Arden Rose denied an attempt from Leecy Cruz from within the six-yard box to deny Lesley of the winner.

KEEPING UP WITH THE KEEPERS

  • Wilds tallied five saves in the contest.
  • Rose relieved Wilds in the 77th and recorded two saves.
  • Madison Reed parried four Suffolk shots.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING 

  • Petronio picked up Suffolk's lone goal.
  • Giovanni and Duggan notched their first assists of the season.
  • Lesley held the advantage in shots, 15-9, and 8-5 in shots on goal.

NOTEWORTHY 

  • Suffolk remains unbeaten through the first six games of the season, matching last year's record start to the campaign.
  • The Rams have not conceded a goal through the first six games of the year.
  • Lesley's goal halted the clean sheet streak at five games to begin the campaign.
  • Suffolk and Lesley met for the 12th time.
  • The Rams and Lynx played to a draw for the second time in the all-time series and second straight meeting. 
  • Suffolk moves to 2-8-2 against Lesley in the all-time series.
  • The Rams now hold a 2-2-1 record against the Lynx on home turf.
  • The blue-and-gold stand at 1-1-2 against Lesley in the Ellie McDougall era.
